Communications Manager – A Rocha International

The Communications Manager is a full-time position responsible for implementing A Rocha’s communications strategy primarily within the USA context while  supporting A Rocha International’s global communications. The main objectives will be to increase awareness of A Rocha’s work and mobilize support from churches, the scientific and conservation communities, and the general public in the USA.

The Communications Manager primarily uses their skills and experience in writing and project management to create clear, accurate and persuasive communications and implement them in a way that advances the mission, fundraising goals, and impacts of A Rocha.

As a part of the A Rocha International team, the Communications Manager reports to A Rocha International’s Director of Communications with input from A Rocha USA’s Director of Strategy. This is a highly collaborative role, which will require liaising extensively with A Rocha USA and other A Rocha organizations to craft original materials and high-quality communications.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify key demographic groups in the United States that resonate with the A Rocha mission and message
  • Create and implement an effective strategic communications plan to reach and grow relationships with these audiences in liaison with the A Rocha International Director of Communications and A Rocha USA Director of Strategy
  • Coordinate with the A Rocha USA staff member responsible for development to provide direction on branding, messaging, collateral development, and strategic direction in communicating with donors
  • Gather inputs from around the A Rocha worldwide family and conduct interviews with staff, participants, and others to develop donor-related messaging and stories
  • Write, edit, and manage production for print and digital content for all platforms, including but not limited to social media, website, email newsletters, newsletters, annual reviews, promotional materials, and press releases
  • Support production of photography and video content to create multimedia pieces for the blog, websites and social media
  • Ensure consistent messaging and audience experience across all communications
  • Maintain best practice knowledge of key trends in nonprofit marketing and communications, specifically as they relate to outreach, engagement, and sector-related education
  • Attend strategic events to represent A Rocha, exhibit as appropriate and network with key constituents
  • Participate in the A Rocha International communications team
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education and qualifications:
    1. University-level education
    2. Proven ability in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or other related concentration, or commensurate professional experience
  • Skills and experience:
    1. Proven ability to create compelling copy and communication pieces for a wide variety of audiences across multiple platforms
    2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to proof-read and copy-edit at an advanced level
    3. Attention to detail with strong project management, organizational and analytical skills and the ability to coordinate and manage diverse projects in a timely manner
    4. Eye and sensitivity for graphic design
    5. Ability to work without local supervision, but under direction
    6. Self-starter able to run with ideas and try new things
  • Knowledge and understanding:
    1. Understanding of the nuances of the USA Christian world
    2. Understanding of conservation and environmental issues
    3. Good theological knowledge
    4. Sensitivity to cross-cultural issues
    5. Ability to read, speak and write fluently in English
  • Personal qualities and attitude:
    1. Deep commitment to the vision, mission, and five commitments of A Rocha, as a committed Christian who is passionate about creation care and securing more funding for this vital work
    2. Supportive of A Rocha’s biblical values and vision with a willingness to work within this ethos
