Avery holds a BA in Communications from the University of Texas A&M. After graduating from university, she led a group of 60 missionaries on a Christian humanitarian trip called The World Race, where they lived out of backpacks for 11 months in 11 countries and served various groups of people in need. Following this trip, Avery moved to Austin, TX to start a social enterprise food truck, SAvery Grilled Cheese, that gave 10% of its earnings to organizations fighting against modern day slavery. In 2018, Avery sold her food truck and worked the next four years in the nonprofit sector at a long-term living facility for teenagers that had been previously domestically trafficked. She comes with 10 years of experience in the areas of fundraising, program development and team leadership. Avery lives in San Antonio, TX with her husband James.
