As a worldwide family of organizations working on the conservation of natural habitats and ecosystems, we seek to address climate change as one of the top five drivers of biodiversity loss.

Our work around the world restoring natural carbon sinks, such as old growth forests, wetlands, peatlands and marine ecosystems. It contributes to mitigation efforts in fighting against climate change in the medium term. And it enhances the resilience of these systems, as well as the human communities depending on them.

Nature-based solutions to climate change

  • Our projects in South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, and Peru restore and preserve various types of forests in their respective ecological settings, enhancing their abilities to absorb carbon in the atmosphere, while strengthening their resilience.
  • Our habitat conservation projects in Canada and Kenya restore and protect crucial wetlands, an important part of carbon sinks as well as climate resilience for the respective communities.
  • Our marine project in Kenya monitors coral reefs for bleaching impacts while seeking proper approaches to enhance resilience.

Climate Stewards

Climate Stewards is part of the A Rocha family of organizations, caring for God’s creation around the world.

They have been offering high quality carbon offsets since 2007 and now work with many hundreds of individuals, charities and churches to provide advice and support in their carbon reduction journey.

They have two flagship tools:

360°Carbon:  An easy-to-use carbon footprint calculator for churches, synagogues or charity (UK, Aotearoa NZ, Netherlands)

Footprintr.me: An easy to use carbon footprint calculator for individuals and families

A Rocha at UNFCCC COPs

As Christians, we have a biblical mandate to work on climate change:

  1. We care for God’s creation because he made it and loves it. A stable climate system is part of God’s creation, vital to the existence of all living things.
  2. We are commanded to love our neighbour, including the poor and vulnerable, who are disproportionately impacted by the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss.

We have a presence at UNFCCC COPs because we want to bear witness as Christians by attending, praying, participating, and lobbying for ambitious solutions, and by helping to inform and mobilize Christians.

Following the15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15), we released a policy statement on tackling the global crises of biodiversity loss, climate change, and poverty and inequality with faith.
